Feb, 14, 2007
Markham, Canada- Feb, 14, 2007 – G4Box Inc. a publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment media, today announced that it is entering into a joint venture partnership with SilverBrich Inc. to operate an English-language version of Metin2, an online computer game with more than 2.2 million players in Asia and Germany.
Metin2, a 3D fantasy game involving a medieval battle of empires, is a leading title in the "massive multiplayer online role-playing game" (MMORPG) genre, one of the fastest-growing segments of the online game market. Participants assume the roles of online characters that interact with other players while engaging in battle and other activities through multiple levels. After downloading the free game software, players can purchase value-added, in-game services and "assets", and premium features that enhance the game experience - a proven, successful revenue model for this genre of online game.
Metin2 has attracted a large and growing following in Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea, according to its creator, Ymir Entertainment of South Korea. It is part of a worldwide online game market that is forecasted to grow from US$3.4 billion in 2005 to over US$13 billion in 2011, of which 55% will be derived from MMORPG games, according to a report by DFC Intelligence.
"The securing of Metin2 rights signals an important new focus for SilverBirch on the expanding multi-player online game market," said SilverBirch CEO Derek van der Plaat. "This will offer new revenue opportunities while leveraging our experience in wireless and mobile games."
"With our expertise in the MMORPG space, combined with SilverBirch's talented software development team and Jambo's cross-platform promotion capabilities, the Metin2 project is poised for success," added Howard He, CEO of G4Box.
The joint venture agreement provides for a 50/50% revenue share and an option to SilverBirch to acquire up to 10% of G4Box in exchange for providing marketing and development support. The English-language version of Metin2 is expected to begin generating revenue shortly after it goes live this summer, following open-beta testing.
